From Ireland’s green fields to Queensland earthworks

During Women in Construction Week, which culminates with the International Women’s Day on Sunday, Winslow recognises their valuable contribution to the Group.

Winslow is future-focused on supporting our women and we believe that “you can’t be what you can’t see”.

The Women of Winslow is an ongoing initiative across the Group aimed at supporting site-based females through upskilling our current female site leaders.

Growing up on a farm in Ireland, it would be hard to imagine trading that in and moving across the globe for rugged Queensland worksites to embark on a career in civil construction.

Hauling material across dirty earthworks is a long way from the green landscape of Ireland, but Winslow Queensland Plant Operator Amy is loving her career in construction.

She gained her Moxy ticket so she could get into the civil construction industry, starting with Winslow more than three years ago operating in bulk earthworks.

With the support of HSE Coordinator and Trainer Jacinta, Amy is determined to learn and operate more machines and was excited by the opportunity to operate a scraper several months ago.

“Everyone at Winslow has been great to work with, the Operators have been helpful and supportive throughout my time here,” Amy said. “I enjoy working in bulk earthworks and hope to further my skills and operate other machines in the future.”

Amy is currently working on a new master planned community in Ripley Valley, southwest of Brisbane.
