Coomera Connector completed ahead of schedule
At Winslow, we challenge targets by doing more with less. By being innovative, we become more efficient.
By being self-sustainable with a ‘no waste’ policy ensures we reduce costs as well as meeting our environmental targets and requirements.
Winslow Infrastructure in Queensland recently completed early works on a 1.6km section of the Coomera Connector (Stage 1 South package) that was successfully delivered ahead of schedule despite significant days lost to wet weather, most notably Cyclone Alfred and subsequent extended inclement weather patterns that affected the area.
Winslow was contracted by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for the Coomera Connector Stage 1 South – Early Works – Nerang River to Nerang-Broadbeach Road, which began in May 2024 and was completed ahead of schedule in October 2025.
The early works program involved clearing vegetation, relocation of service utilities, bulk earthworks, and preloading activities to support the next stage, where new embankment and excess material was placed on the existing ground to consolidate and increase the bearing capacity of the underlying soft soils.
This involved about 25,000 trucks with trailers carting a total of 900,000 tonne of material to construct the embankment without impacting the surrounding environment.
“The team at Winslow is delighted to have partnered with the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the Coomera Connector Stage 1 South Early Works package and are proud to contribute to the advancement of major infrastructure in Queensland,” said Winslow Queensland Construction Manager David Rogers.
“The project is a prime example of collaboration between client (TMR), contractor, administrator (GHD), and the community, which led to best outcomes for the project.
“The relationships we have built over the past year has fostered open and honest communication and has allowed us to collaborate and achieve solutions, I don’t believe would have been possible on a project without strong client leadership and community relationship.”
Upon completion, the Coomera Connector will improve and provide more reliable travel times between Brisbane and the Gold Coast by reducing the number of local trips on the M1 and increase safety.
