History

Winslow has achieved solid and sustained growth from humble beginnings in 1985 to become a significant player in the Civil Construction Industry.

Incorporated in 1985 Winslow was formed by its current Director and owner, Dino Strano and Tony Mauro.

The way the Winslow name was chosen by Dino and Tony was unique and reflects the “different” way of thinking and operating that is still part of the business today. A way of thinking that is quick, efficient and gets the job done well.

Dino simply opened a street directory to a random page and, with his eyes closed, put his finger on a street. The name of that street became the name of the company, Winslow.

A major step forward for the business was winning its first contract, a laneway in Nunawading, for the princely sum of $17,000.

In 1985 Winslow opened its first office in a small shop located in a small suburban shopping strip in St James Road Rosanna in Melbourne. The office consisted of a reception area and two offices. Winslow’s asset register showed total plant to include a shovel and a jackhammer. Later the company established a workshop to service plant and equipment in a small factory unit in Thomastown gradually moving through larger factory units until in late 2000 the workshop and the office moved to the current Head Office and Winslow Plant Hire premises at Barry Road in Campbellfield. The company now has offices throughout Melbourne in addition to the Head Office at Barry Road and owns significant plant and equipment valued in the millions of dollars.

In 1985 Winslow hired its first employee, Mr Girolimo Mezzatesta. Mr Mezzatesta stayed with Winslow for over 20 years until his retirement. Mr Mezzatesta was honoured for his services to the company with a special presentation at the company’s celebration of 20 years in 2005.

In 1996 Tony Mauro left the group and Dino Strano became the sole Director and Owner.

The company started to grow rapidly and with that growth other service areas were required to ensure the company operated correctly and could sustain the growth.
